Gessera Zone

Zona Gessera is the name given to the mountain range between the towns of Tendrui and Talarn, including the Massanes ravine. It is characterised by its clayey terrain, which gives us fast rolling trails. With banked bends, most sections are easy and fun, although there are also technical or exposed sections that will force you to use all five senses on your bike.

The legendary trails of the region are Serengeti, Afganistrail, Beleph, Dragon Khan and Escolopendra.

In this area we have to be very careful with the weather. When it rains, the clay soil turns to mud, which sticks to the tyres and makes it difficult to move. This means that you should avoid riding in the area on rainy days. The time it takes to dry out depends on the temperature and the orientation of each trail.

The Serengeti, Afganistrail and Sisquet are the sunniest and will have the best conditions first.

The Escolopendra, Sagrada Familia, White Line, Massanes and MX Connection trails have very shady areas where the cold of the night causes the wet areas to refreeze and turn to mud by midday, creating a cycle that results in permanent mud on most winter days. Avoid these trails during the cold winter months.

Fog also causes the lower areas of the ravines to become wet and muddy. We can find this phenomenon at Lambretto, MX Connection, Torre del Felix or Jordan’s, so we will avoid these trails in the seasons with persistent fog.

THE RULES OF THE TRAILS

Give way to other cyclists and walkers, warn of your arrival in time and slow down.

Do not scare the animals by shouting or making unnecessary noise. You are in their environment.

Take your dog on a leash, especially on the busiest trails.

Respect the signs or fences of private property or hunting grounds.

Follow the established routes, don’t take shortcuts.

Control speed and braking, avoiding skids that erode the ground unnecessarily.

Do not litter.

Avoid clayey areas on muddy days due to rain or fog. Respect the route symbols.

Check your bike before you go out and always carry a repair kit.

Use a helmet, wear gloves, goggles and protection.

Know your physical condition and choose the route based on it. Always evaluate the gradient, not just the distance.

Keep an eye on weather forecasts, they can be changeable.

It is recommended to do the routes with GPS navigation support. The routes are not physically signposted.

It is important to be insured in the practice of mountain biking, which is why we recommend obtaining a federal license or private accident insurance.

The Lo Podall association will not be held responsible for the implicit risks involved in a sporting activity of this type, such as falls, making dangerous descents, misdirection, misuse of common spaces with other activities, etc. Also, it will not be held responsible for the misuse of the routes or for possible imprudences committed by users.
