We call the area between Tremp and the Terradets gorge the South Zone, which includes the traditional paths that connect the villages of Puigcercós, Puigmaçana, Claret, Guàrdia de Noguera and Castell de Mur. These were the first routes used by the locals for MTB, and some of them were part of the first race organised by the Lo Podall association. Nowadays they are the least crowded routes, which makes them particularly attractive to those seeking the tranquillity and romance of riding through remote areas, especially during the busiest periods, when it is not always easy to avoid the crowds.
Among the best known trails in the area are the Censada, Puigcercós, Puigmaçana, Claret and the Chut ridge, which is not as narrow as the Dragon Khan but can be just as dizzying.
The terrain is mostly clayey, with conditions similar to those in the Gessera area. On wet days, this easily turns into mud that sticks to the wheels, making it difficult to negotiate. It is therefore advisable to avoid any trails in this area on rainy days. The time needed for the mud to dry depends on the temperature and the orientation of each trail. The trails of La Censada and Collmorter are stonier and have better drainage, which allows them to recover more quickly after rain.
On the other hand, the Puigcercós-Puigmaçana, Claret and Cresta del Chut trails have shadier sections where the mud takes longer to dry. In addition, on cold winter days, night frosts cause these wet areas to freeze and turn back to mud by midday. This phenomenon creates a constant cycle of mud during the colder seasons, so it is advisable to avoid these trails on most winter days.
Give way to other cyclists and walkers, warn of your arrival in time and slow down.
Do not scare the animals by shouting or making unnecessary noise. You are in their environment.
Take your dog on a leash, especially on the busiest trails.
Respect the signs or fences of private property or hunting grounds.
Follow the established routes, don’t take shortcuts.
Control speed and braking, avoiding skids that erode the ground unnecessarily.
Do not litter.
Avoid clayey areas on muddy days due to rain or fog. Respect the route symbols.
Check your bike before you go out and always carry a repair kit.
Use a helmet, wear gloves, goggles and protection.
Know your physical condition and choose the route based on it. Always evaluate the gradient, not just the distance.
Keep an eye on weather forecasts, they can be changeable.
It is recommended to do the routes with GPS navigation support. The routes are not physically signposted.
It is important to be insured in the practice of mountain biking, which is why we recommend obtaining a federal license or private accident insurance.
